Proficiency Tests in English and Numeracy

In addition to standard entry requirements, all candidates applying for teacher training courses starting in Sept 2019 were required by the Department of Education (DfE), first to pass government tests in literacy and numeracy, known as the 'DfE Skills Tests'.

The 'DfE Skills Tests' have just (July 2019) been abolished by DfE for those applying for teacher training courses starting in Sept 2020.  DfE have clarified that these are to be replaced by tests in written English and numeracy set by the accrediting provider of each course, in line with standards set out by DfE.

These arrangements are currently being developed by all our accrediting universities (St Mary's University Twickenham; University of Roehampton; and UCL).  As soon as the arrangements are confirmed, they will be made clear on this page and will also be clarified in interview letters.
