SPECIAL SCHOOL COURSE VACANCIES
We have a number of Special Schools in the alliance that provide education for pupils with special needs. Working in a special school requires specialist skills but there is no separate teaching qualification to be a special needs teacher. All teacher training in this country leads to a qualification that enables you to teach in mainstream schools.
Having said that, if you choose one of our special schools as your main host school this will give you an excellent grounding for a future career in the special needs sector.
Anyone whose host school is a special school, may need to have a slightly longer second placement in a mainstream school to ensure sufficient experience is also gained in a mainstream environment.
We have four Special Schools that are recruiting trainees for 2019-20:
- Queensmill School - recruiting for primary
- Pield Heath House School - recruiting for primary
- Jack Tizard School - recruiting for primary
- The Rise School - recruiting for primary and secondary
Summary descriptions of these schools and the programmes that they offer can be found in our primary and secondary course web pages.
When applying for programmes at these schools, it can be a significant advantage to have some previous experience of children with special needs to demonstrate some understanding of the relevant issues, demands and rewards of this sector. However all these schools welcome a range of applicants and encourage you to arrange a visit.
In the past we have also recruited a trainee for Parayhouse School and Cambridge School (both in Hammermsith & Fulham) .
